Trier is the oldest town in Germany. Settlements already existed in the Moselle where Trier now stands in the third millennium B C. In the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus the ancient river crossing between the confluences of the rivers Saar, Moselle and Ruwer raised to the status of the "Augusta" of the Treveri - AUGUSTA TREVERORUM.

Two centuries later it was the residence of six Roman emperors, including Constantine the Great: it was thanks to him that Trier became a centre of early Christianity.

Nowadays it is internationally famous for its many and various light and aromatic wines. Its culinary specialities and mild climate also make this city on the banks of the River Moselle an ideal and peaceful spot for learning a language.
